How Will We Attract An Audience?

To attract an audience there are many things that need t be considered. The most important thing for attracting our audience is allowing our film opening sequence to contain a cliff hanger at the end. This allows the audience to have the will to continue watching to find out what happens next which can then be dragged out throughout the course of the entire film. Films can also attract their audiences by being unique to the genre, taking it to a new level and making the audience feel more connected to the story and its characters.

A film that does this for example is 'Eden Lake':

This film shows a different type of horror and attracts its audience through its unique take on a horror/thriller film by being related to how humans treat other humans. This attracts the audience as it can be seen as a realistic occurrence within modern society. This allows the audience to feel more connected to the characters within the film, quickly determining the protagonists from the antagonists.

Another example of attracting audiences is the in film 'The conjuring':

This film attracts it audience through the narrative of a ghost story. Horror films with this particular narrative are seemingly extremely popular with audiences as they allow the audience to feel involved with the characters which allows them to feel scared which is how these types of horror films like to connect with their audiences.

Another example of attracting audiences is in the film 'The Women in Black':

This film attracts it audience through the use of the narrative. This is because the narrative is, like 'The Conjuring' as it is based around a ghost story. This entices the audience as audiences generally like the feeling of being scared as this makes them feel more in touch with the film and allows them to understand the emotions and thoughts of the characters.

This will help us when creating our own film opening as it allows us to see how each of these films entices their audience to continue watching which allows us to know what sort of narratives work in a horror film.
